USAGE -
- to print a message on terminal
>> echo Hello World
>> echo "Hello World"
- command inside double or single quotations are simple texts
- to run command inside/using echo
>> echo "$(command)"
>> echo "$(pwd)"
- display system variables using echo
>> echo "$variable"
>> echo "$SHELL" prints the name and path of SHELL being used
>> echo "$USER" prints name of the user
SYNTAX -
- echo [-enE] "[arguments]"
- '-n' - doesnot print or execute next line command on new line but continues/appends on same line after the execution of current echo command
- '-e' - we can use '\n' for newline argument or text after using -e as an option
- used to beautify the output or text using colour codes
- more options like \n in -e:
- '\b' - removes one space back from where it is used
- '\t' - creates horizontal tab spaces
- '\v' - creates vertical tab spaces
- '\a' - creates a sound alert
- '\r' - used for carriage return
- '\c' - suppresses any further outputs
- '\\' - eliminates or skips the special purpose of backslash characters and prints it as it is
- '-E' - executes like normal echo command, eliminates the special characters eventhough used in options
