Impala's support for async DDL, DML statements can possibly be exposed over database/sql API as a special kind of transaction:

  • only ReadUncommitted (lowest) isolation is supported
  • Rollback is not supported
  • Cancel is supported in some way - context cancellation maybe?

When DDL, DML statements are executed within such transaction, we will not wait for them to finish. On Commit, we will wait for all issued statements.
